I'm Emily, the Founder & Owner of fern + shaker. At the heart of all things, I'm a whiskey lover and cocktail enthusiast. I moved to Portland, OR in 2016 from New York City and started things here as a way to get back to a place of creativity and an opportunity to share my love of cocktails with the world. I use my creative background and my artistic energy to develop recipes, style and photograph cocktails, produce beautiful events, and educate people on what makes the perfect drink.

I started my career as an opera singer, but after discovering the joys of whiskey and cocktails, I left that life behind for more spiritous endeavors. I enjoy crafting flavorful and balanced cocktails, focused on highlighting the ingredients, and making something as beautiful to the eyes as it is to the lips.

Back in 2012 I founded the Astoria Whiskey Society, a group which attracted over 300 members all around the NY Metro area. Organizing events and creating cocktails is one of my greatest joys. While running my whiskey society, I also acted as a whiskey educator and specialist for some of the country's biggest whiskey portfolios, namely: Beam Suntory, Edrington Americas, and Campari America. In addition to conducting whiskey education for these brands, I have also worked with Bacardi as a Brand Ambassador for Santa Teresa Rum and Oxley Gin here in the Portland market.

I excel at working with brands to help make their products stand out in the marketplace. I especially enjoy educating people about whiskey and other spirits, and of course, cocktails. In addition to whiskey, I can often be found drinking 50/50 martinis, Aperol spritzes, and anything to do with tiki. I have a weak spot for ramen and any food that's Southeast Asian. I'm a fan of winged liner and am guilty of owning way too many red lipsticks.

In addition to my work at fern + shaker, you can find me behind the bar at Jacqueline in SE Portland’s Clinton neighborhood. Come in sometime and let me feed you oysters and delicious drinks.

Hope to see you soon, with a glass in your hand!
