Lilac's Last Word

Lilac's Last Word

I was recently asked to participate in the We Have The Last Word Instagram Campaign. LA Cocktail enthusiast, Mike Yoshioka, started the campaign as a means for people to take a classic cocktail and put their own spin on it. He wanted people to "Create, Inspire, Support, Discover, Connect". He hoped that the people who participated would create something amazing, inspire others with their creations, support and encourage each other, discover new Instagram accounts, and connect with new people to create new friendships.

His campaign worked and over 450 Instagrammers participated and contributed over 940 entries. It was amazing to see the many variations on this classic cocktail and how different they all were. In case you're wondering, the original drink consists of equal amounts of gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and freshly pressed lime juice. All shaken with ice and served in a cocktail coupe.

For my variation I decided to use the lilac liqueur that I had made last year. Its so floral and beautiful and perfect for the spring season. Since it is so floral, I needed a base spirit that could stand up to that, which I decided needed to be Pisco. I love Pisco! It's such an unsung hero in cocktails and I truly hope that more people start to discover it as a spirit. It's got just as much complexity as a gin, but often many more floral qualities, which is so beautiful in cocktails.

I hope you'll try this one out at home if you get a chance. Cheers and thanks again to @mmydrinks for asking me to participate in the #WeHaveTheLastWord campaign!
